Oh so sweet Kellerhaus
Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us. With it come roses, greeting cards … and candy. Every year I can look forward to a box of chocolates from my husband on Valentine’s Day, and I don’t mean the kind of candy that may have been sitting on the shelf for a long, long time.
I’m talking about the real thing: handmade chocolates in a variety of tasty fillings sitting snugly in the candy box just waiting to give up their flavor in that first bite. My husband knows only one kind of candy is really acceptable for a Valentine’s Day gift: Kellerhaus candy.
My family and I have been going to Kellerhaus in Weirs Beach for many years. It’s a great spot to feed a sweet tooth on a cold winter’s day. This wonderful shop, with its ice cream make-your-own-sundae bar, all kinds of gifts and a huge room full of candies has saved my sanity a number of times over the years on school vacation weeks.
Any mother will relate to winter school vacations when youngsters have exhausted every movie, every sledding hill and every play date imaginable. When my kids’ wealthy friends were off in hot spots like Florida and Mexico for February vacation and we were stuck in snow-covered New Hampshire, it was difficult. Boredom would eventually set in for my kids, along with the inevitable jealousy of being left behind while friends were cavorting at Disney or swimming in the warm ocean water of the Caribbean.
