Once Upon a Time at Christmas Time … Christmasworld Presents ‘Newstalgia’ by 2dezign

“I wish you a ‘Newstalgia’ Christmas and a Happy New Year” – a sentence that sets the bells of a reindeer-drawn sledge ringing in the mind. And this is exactly the mood the new ‘Newstalgia’ special show aims to generate. Do we want a traditional Christmas celebration? Yes, but a modern interpretation of it, please! And this is the motto of the Dutch designer duo of 2dezign. In line with this, Rudi Tuinman and Pascal Koeleman have created a splendid Christmas landscape with a huge fairy-tale castle and a factory for Christmas articles, toys and gifts. Visitors will be able to see the spectacular ‘Newstalgia’ exhibition at Christmasworld (Galleria 1) in Frankfurt am Main from 24 to 28 January 2014.

This is the fourth time that 2dezign has staged a major presentation on behalf of Christmasworld, the leading international trade fair for festive decorations. This year, the designers aim to provide inspiration for new window, shop and outdoor/indoor decorations with a light-hearted blend of the traditional and modern. “Christmas is a very emotional time that brings back childhood memories and thus increases the desire to tell fascinating stories. This is our starting point and, by visualising storytelling, we aim to provide the retail trade with new concepts and ideas that will tempt their customers to explore their shops and make purchases”, explains Rudi Tuinman of 2dezign.

Once upon a time at Christmasworld in Frankfurt …

The designers tell a fairy-tale in which two extremely different members of the ‘Newstalgia’ family from east and west meet to celebrate Christmas at Christmasworld … the rich Nicholas from Boston and the poor Svetlana from Sverdlovsk in the Ural Mountains come from two worlds that could hardly be more different. What brings them together is their membership of the historical ‘Newstalgia’ dynasty. This family of Christmas enthusiasts and manufacturers of Christmas articles has been living in the family castle in Frankfurt since 1738. They acquired their wealth through the family factory and its outlets in America and Russia. At Christmas, all members of the family from America, Russia and Germany congregate in the ‘Newstalgia’ Castle at Christmasworld – and delight in the products made in the ‘Newstalgia’ factory, which, although they look as if they were manufactured the early 1900s, they have been produced using modern technology and in a modern style.…

Discover what is new and trendy for Christmas

The two designers are renowned for decorations that touch the heart strings, astound and inspire enduringly. At Christmasworld, the special show is a valuable source of inspiration for everyone – from small retailers to shopping centre managers – looking for new ways of reaching customers and putting together their assortments.

“At ‘Newstalgia’, the designers blend the nostalgic flair surrounding Christmas with the complete spectrum of innovative decoration trends offered by our exhibitors. For the first time this year, they are focusing specifically on the core segment of the fair – Christmas and Advent – and I am really looking forward to seeing the finished result at the fair”, adds Christmasworld Director Eva Olbrich, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH. The ‘Newstalgia’ buildings form the perfect backdrop for the products of the international Christmasworld exhibitors. Moreover, the location in the Galleria permits the gigantic dimensions of the special show, e.g., the castle will be eleven metres high and the show cover an area of 435 square metres. The aim is to create the ultimate Christmas atmosphere – in antic colours, reminiscent of the Christmases of days gone by, with glorious fresh and silk flowers (lisianthus, roses and lilies) in enchanting arrangements. Visiting ‘Newstalgia’ is – besides a visit to the Trend Show – the perfect way to begin a tour of the fair. The exhibitors taking part are named on a sponsors’ board with their hall and stand numbers so trade visitors can simply add them to their tour.

2dezign: Rudi Tuinman and Pascal Koeleman

Founded by Dutch designers Rudi Tuinman and Pascal Koeleman, 2dezign has made a name for itself with interior decorations, floral promotion, marketing & arrangements and advertising campaigns. They enjoy playing with reality and viewing things with a creative eye. “For us, design is an adventure, which can only be experienced by all if it is backed by a good plan and a professional team that controls and monitors the implementation down to the smallest detail”, explains Pascal Koeleman.

The love of 2dezign for great effects and fresh greenery results inter alia from the biographies of the two designers: Pascal Koeleman began his career as a florist and product designer. Tuinman comes from the fashion and styling business. They founded their studio in Rijnsburg near The Hague in 2000. Since then, they have gone from success to success in many different fields including showroom, fair and interior design. Today, 2dezign consists of the two founders, a team of full-time designers and a network of creative freelancers.
