There’s a new business in town. Well, actually, it opened about a year ago.
The sales people are great, and they’re very willing to help you find just the right gift for your student.
The special education department at the Hastings High School has opened the School Store. Maybe re-opened is a better description. The store was first opened by a business class when the school opened, back in 2002. It closed three years ago because the business classes weren’t able to keep it open more than an about an hour a day.
St. James Archive Special ed teachers Heidi Revels and Katie Peterson had an idea. Part of their curriculum is about teaching their students about working, getting jobs and learning to deal with people, the stuff we all need to enable us to live in this world. Their students, however, need just a little more help.
What a great place to hold a “real life” class.
“It’s a great opportunity for students,” Peterson said. “We have a work study program to help our students get out in the world.”
“We knew some other schools were doing it,” Revels said. “So, we toured some of them.”
