While traveling on South Main Street in Petal, a sign with a large, red maple leaf stands out among the pine trees.
Red Maple Gifts and Your Silver Spoon is a gift shop, caterer and event station rolled into one location. Offering anything from baby shower to housewarming presents in Red Maple Gifts, Your Silver Spoon has casseroles, cookies, sponge cakes and petit fours.
Both businesses are owned by Angela Loper and Melissa Lee. Red Maple has been around for four years – 1 1/2 years at its current location. Loper and Lee bought Red Maple in October 2008 and expanded upon it, adding Your Silver Spoon catering and pastries.
Pam Dyhrkopp, a clerk, said about 80 percent of their pottery section is dedicated to Mississippi potters.
“We have a crystal shop and bridal registry. Brides can select crystal to be monogrammed,” Dyhrkopp said. “We’ve even had brides register over the phone, get their gifts wrapped and then the bridal party will pick it up. The bride doesn’t even have to come into the store. There’s not many places that will do that.”
