She loves color – and boy, does it show.

Catherine Thursby’s Red Shoes store, in a charming, deep teal-colored house off South Ashley Street, is an explosion of brightly hued vintage and modern merchandise from dishes to furniture.

A former florist and window display artist, Thursby originally started the store as a way to showcase her own art. For many years, she sold handmade dolls, pillows and other pieces under her maiden name, Catherine Peterson.

Having kids slowed that business down, however. So in 2005, Thursby realized a lifelong dream and opened the retail store.
