Sharp Businesswoman Treats Newburgh
Newburgh, NY – On a brick-hard stretch of Liberty Street, where wind blows scraps of paper like leaves, passersby may find an oasis of sweetness and delight.
Opening the door to Simple Gifts and Goodies the first time can be a bit jarring, so sharp is the contrast between the aging urban downtown and the sparkling candy displays, ice cream counter and gift shop within.
A sense of community
Proprietor Nancy Colas grew up in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, earned a bachelor’s in sociology and worked in the admissions department of CUNY. She came to Newburgh a dozen years ago, first as a weekend and holiday resident at a home she bought in the Heights section of the city, and then permanently after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
