Shop embraces trend toward personalized giftsBy Kathie BassettTheTelegraph.com

Alton – The personal touch reigns at Alexander’s, where Alex and Joyce King specialize in helping clients create custom jewelry and select monogrammed gift items.

“We’ve been branching out,” Alex King said. “The trend we’ve seen is toward personalized gifts, whether it’s for a birthday, anniversary, wedding or any other occasion.”

The store has recently introduced a line of glassware that looks etched, but the design in fact is applied vinyl tape.

Through this process, personalized items such as glasses, bowls, pitchers, picture frames or key chains can be decorated to match a color theme or a particular design and then be individualized with guests’ names or initials.

“We can do people’s names or put bride and groom on glasses along with polka dots, hearts or whatever they want,” Joyce King said.

Monogrammed glasses cost $12 and require two to three days to be personalized.

“This has been very popular with wedding parties,” Joyce King said. “Helping brides is always a lot of fun, and we can help them make their choices because there are just so many options we have available.”
