A West Nashville gift shop is expanding its inventory with coffee table books and offering itself as a sanctuary for local authors displaced by the closure of some other Nashville-area bookstore chains.

The Beveled Edge began selling quirky books five years ago but has doubled its inventory this spring with coffee table books, home decor and recipe books.

Volumes now take up more than a quarter of the 4,500-square-foot store at 73 White Bridge Road.

“There are photography books that you want to flip through. They aren’t novels or something you want to download on your Kindle and read on a flight,” said William Smithson, who owns The Beveled Edge with Susan Taylor. “We’ve seen a lot of growth in our book department over the past year. It is sort of a coincidence that it (worked) out the way it has. We are sad to see the other bookstores go.”
