Store Owners Could Face Criminal Charges For Fake Bags
Three stores police say sold fake designer bags are in trouble. Thousands of dollars in merchandise and profits were confiscated, and owners may face charges. State Police are sorting through fake Chanel and Prada bags, fake Tiffany necklaces and fake designer sunglasses. All the imitations are worth more than 14 thousand dollars, and police say the three stores selling them broke the law. Officers raided Chic Boutique in Utica, a kiosk at Sangertown Mall and Joette’s Boutique in New Hartford.
Joette Mancuso says her store only had a few imitation Chanel earrings, and was no longer selling the fake bags. Customers didn’t seem phased, some even said they’d still buy the fake merchandice, others said they didn’t know it was wrong. It’s not illegal to own the fake bags, just to sell them.
