Sweet as Grandma: Candy Shop Opens in Monroe
Monroe, CT – From a Mary Jane to a Skybar, Grandma Josie’s, a recently opened nostalgic candy shop in Monroe’s Clock Tower Square plaza, transports visitors back to a time when gas cost 30 cents a gallon and kids said, “Aw, shucks.” The candy shop, featuring everything from chocolate to granola, was opened by longtime educator Donelle Toner, of Shelton.
Toner said she always wanted to open her own business, but pursued an education degree leading to three decades of teaching, serving as an enrichment teacher for second- and third-graders and a library media specialist.
Like her grandmother, Josie, Toner said she wanted to start a second career after retiring.
