Sweet Rexie’s mixes sugar, savvy
Fairfield, CT — From chocolate-covered Gummi Bears to Play-Doh-colored ice cream, Sweet Rexie’s caters to anyone in need of that daily serving from the “fifth food group.”
Catering to the “kid in everyone,” owner Nanci Lewis said she originally opened Sweet Rexie’s as a way of combining her creative talents with business savvy.
“I thought there was a real need in the market for a candy shop,” she said. “Everyone loves candy.”
Acrylic dispensers of candy line the wall luring customers to fill their bag with candy necklaces, malted milk balls and nearly two dozen shades of M&M’s.
Although Lewis said she has a loyal set of locals who frequent the candy shop, people from surrounding towns also are coming to visit the 1552 Post Road business. A booming gift basket business and kid’s birthday parties have contributed to her success, she said.
Receiving more than 20 awards since first opening in South Norwalk in December 2004, Sweet Rexie’s was recognized this year as best candy store by Best of Gold Coast and Fairfield Weekly, which also gave it the Best Gift Basket prize.
