Barnegat Township, NJ – This summer, a really sweet spot has sprouted up in Barnegat Township – Candiqueen’s, at 237 South Main St. (Route 9). The owner, Gwen Lucas, had more than 20 years of experience in the confectionary field, first at Jenkinson’s Sweet Shop and then Martell’s, both in Point Pleasant Beach.

A Barnegat Township resident the past three years, Lucas said she wanted to open up a candy shop that features everything you would find in a boardwalk establishment, but without the crowds.

“It gets so busy on the boardwalk,” she said. “At Candiqueen’s, I want to have a quiet, relaxing place. I remember driving by this place on Route 9, and when I saw that the building was for rent, I thought that it would make a great place for a candy shop. That was my dream.”
