Tetris® Game to be Developed for Keychain Carabiner Debut
Southampton, PA – Basic Fun, a division of the Good Stuff Company, and Blue Planet Software, Inc., the company that manages the exclusive licensing rights to the Tetris® brand, today announced the anticipated debut of the Tetris game on keychain carabiners. Tetris, one of the most recognized casual gaming brands in the world, will be available for the first time ever outside of Japan on keychain carabiners through Basic Fun’s line of dynamic handheld electronic devices. The Tetris game will be available in this fun, take-everywhere format for under $10.00, beginning Fall 2011.
“Basic Fun’s line of licensed handheld electronic games continues to grow, and we are thrilled to add and debut Tetris, the interactive and mobile gaming phenomenon, as a keychain game in our line up,” said Alan Dorfman, President of Basic Fun. “The recent response to our Tetris Carabiner at both the Dallas Toy Fair and Hong Kong Toy Show was very strong, and we look forward to its release in Fall2011.”
“This agreement with Basic Fun opens many new doors for the Tetris brand, and we’re looking forward to working with their innovative and successful team,” said Henk Rogers, president and CEO, Blue Planet Software, Inc. “Basic Fun has created and licensed some of the most inventive novelty toys on the market, and Tetris is a truly portable and play-anywhere game—so we’re natural partners! Working together, our fans will have an all new way to take Tetris with them wherever they go.”
Created in 1984 by Russian-born mathematician Alexey Pajitnov, the Tetris game revolutionized puzzle games with distinctive “falling” blocks, called Tetriminos, that players could arrange in real time along the bottom of the rectangular playing field, or “matrix,” in order to clear lines. Since then, the game has been translated into more than 50 languages and it is played in more than 50 countries worldwide. To date, hundreds of millions of units have been sold.
