The future tastes goodBy Rachel ForrestSeacoastOnline.com

“You are about to make a new friend,” “You are cautious in showing your true self to others,” “Help, I’m trapped in a fortune cookie factory!”

The fortune cookie.

Break it open and just discover your destiny, or play a little game — swap the cookies with your partner before reading, or just add the phrase “in bed” at the end of your fortune — however you have your cookies, it’s always a surprise. And at Fantastic Fortune Cookies in Rollinsford, it’s a big surprise. With two huge sizes of delicious cookies — as big as your fist or even huger — and a fortune you can create yourself, these cookies are tasty and filled with fun.

Cindy and David Francis started the company back in May of 2009 and now their chocolate-covered treats with sprinkles, nuts, even coconut, can be found in more than 30 shops, at weddings, corporate events and birthday parties all over New England and beyond.

“Cindy was an interior designer and she loved to give unique gifts to her clients,” says David Francis. “She saw fortune cookies and thought it was a neat gift idea. Her clients thought they were great and we gave them to our kids’ teachers, brought them to dinner parties. Everyone talked about them. Our friends egged us on telling us how great they were, but your friends will tell you anything!”

The couple decided to listen to their friends and talked to another friend, MJ Bailey owner of the Stolen Menu Cafe in York, Maine.

“She tried them and said they were unbelievable and said, ‘If you want to bake them here when I’m closed you can.’ So we’d go in on a Monday when they are closed and bake and then sell them the rest of the week.”

Their first client was York Hospital and its gift shop.
