Penn Yan, NY – When people think of Main Street stores in this Yates County village, names like Longs’ Cards & Books, Cole’s Furniture and Pinckney Hardware come to mind.
However, there are many hidden gems on Penn Yan’s main drag. The Nest Egg is one of them.
Owned by Joan Hansen for nearly 25 years, the gift shop at 125 Main St. has gained a reputation as a place that has it all — and that reputation extends far beyond Penn Yan and Yates County.
“We had a couple [from out of town] come in last summer. They shopped for a while and bought a few things,” explained Hansen’s daughter, Heather Griffiths. “They went on to Watkins Glen and Ithaca, but came back the next day and were excited that we were open late. They said this was by far the best store they had been at. We thought that was pretty cool.”
