Woodstock Chimes Adds “Magic” to Winter Market Debuts

Woodstock Chimes, a leading manufacturer of musically-tuned windchimes, has again broken the mold with its new Magical Mystery Chimes series. The series’ three chimes, Butterfly’s Farewell, Calypso Island and Space Odyssey, are presented in a classic fashion with sleek aluminum tubes and teak finished wood accents. Adding a brilliant twist is the tuning element, which features a musical phenomenon known as Octave Doubling. For example, Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do, as in the famed scale from The Sound of Music, features a “Do” note at the start and end of its scale, but an octave apart. Musical notes separated by an octave are considered harmonically equivalent and “ring” together in a way that adds a rich, pleasing sound to the music.

The Magical Mystery Chimes take this theory to the extreme: all the notes of the chimes are matched with its octave double at least once, which has never before been used in a windchime design. This special tuning creates a heightening of the harmonics, and a doubling of the sound, resulting in a song that must be heard to be believed. The Magical Mystery Chimes series can be seen during the winter 2013 market season at a variety of shows, including the Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings Market®, January 9-16, 2013, and the New York International Gift Fair [Javits Center], January 20-27, 2013.

Each chime name was inspired by the ever-popular song to which it is tuned [pictured above from left to right]:
