NYIGF Accepting Applications Through June 1 For “A+: The Young Designers’ Platform”
White Plains, NY – Young designers – including students, recent graduates, or new companies in business for one year or less – are invited to participate in “A+: The Young Designer’s Platform”, an “incubator” exhibit area within Accent on Design at the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF). Applications, which are available online , will be accepted through Sunday, June 1, 2008.
Launched in February 2008, A+ showcases emerging talents alongside some 200 established contemporary design resources exhibiting in Accent on Design. This type of participation offers young designers an affordable opportunity to expose their concepts, prototypes and finished products to the wholesale marketplace.
“A+ offers up-and-coming designers and producers an introduction to the B-to-B marketplace,” said Dorothy Belshaw, NYIGF director. “Designers can gauge market response to their concepts, get feedback from established designer leaders and take wholesale orders.”
Joey Roth, a product designer based in New York City, introduced his “Sorapot” teapot at the inaugural edition of A+. “A+ was a tremendous success, pushing my business to the ‘next level’ within the span of a week. The retailers who placed orders with me included Fred Segal, SF MOMA, Branch Home, and Scandia Jewelers. In addition, I met journalists from New York Magazine, Metropolitan Home, and Dwell. This coverage will lead to even more exposure and sales,” said Roth.
For more than 20 years, Accent on Design has presented a juried collection of contemporary and innovative product lines across all categories. Accent on Design runs Sunday, August 17, through Thursday, August 21, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
The 155th semi-annual edition of the New York International Gift Fair will run August 16-21, 2008, at the Javits Center, Metropolitan Pavilion and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94. NYIGF is the nation’s premier gift and home accessory marketplace, with 2,800+ exhibitors featuring an extraordinary breadth and depth of design-driven home fashion products and complementary giftware in nine carefully categorized divisions. Some 40,000 buyers from around the world are expected to attend.
