Boca father and son open post office with sweet treats
“Look at this,” said Peter Wolff, with a glimmer in his eyes as the stuffed animal began to rock back and forth and sing a tune.
In the next breath, “They really look real and feel it,” said Wolff, as he placed a shaggy haired dog purse on his shoulder.
The next aisle over, Wolff was immersed in a wonderland of every child’s dream where candy dotted the walls in bright colors. On the opposite side, old-timers could remember younger years in the nostalgia section.
“You never see those anywhere,” said Wolff, pointing to rows of candy favorites from JuJu Fruits to Razzles.
Other little trinkets and specialty gifts line the walls of Postal Sweets, a post office within a store filled with “something for all ages” located in North Dixie Center in Boca Raton. Peter’s son Zachary Wolff runs the newly opened Boca Raton business.
The store still bears the Post Office sign but once inside customers are greeted to displays of unique gifts- some you can’t find anywhere else, especially at a post office. Webkinz, stuffed animals that become virtual pets on-line, fill the storefront in the thousands and because of immense popularity are sold out in stores nationwide- but not at Postal Sweets. “We have 10,000 of them and another 10,000 in the warehouse,” said Zachary Wolff, President of Postal Sweets. “And we’ve had someone come from Vero Beach and New Jersey and all over the country for them.”
After college graduation, Zachary was running the Carvel two doors down from the post office when the former owner became ill and had to sell the business. That’s when an idea for a store inside a post office flourished.
