Vicky Thompson can take a cluster of balloons and turn it into a life-sized bride and groom, enormous palm trees or three-dimensional champagne glasses bubbling over and spilling across a room.

As the owner of Balloons, Etc. in south Fargo, Thompson has made a career out of decorating with balloons and using the colorful orbs to turn mundane gifts into unique presents.

Balloons, Etc. offers a variety of gift ideas, such as candy bouquets, fresh floral arrangements, gifts stuffed inside balloons and college student care packages.

Thompson uses balloons and other materials to decorate corporate events, weddings and parties.

“There’s really nothing that you can’t do with balloons,” she said.

She opened her first store in Moorhead in 1987 as a retail balloon and gift shop.
