Behind a Start-Up: One Family
Many of the questions I get from readers have to do with money — specifically how people fund a career shift. I try to get these financial details as often as possible, and I recently heard from a reader, Nina Murphy, whose story of how her husband, Bart Ferris, left the corporate world to start a gourmet foods company with a partner touched on just this issue.
It turns out that Ms. Murphy was a big part of the story herself since she is bringing her own skills to her husband’s venture by working as the company’s publicist. (Career reinvention is always a little easier with a supportive spouse in the wings. But that’s a subject for another post.)
I asked Ms. Murphy to tell their story here in the blog, with a focus on how they managed the financial side of things.
