Mother, daughter watch their decor business blossom
Vista – If Colleen and Cynthia Neilson had a dollar for every time they’ve heard, “Why didn’t I think of that?” they would be millionaires.
Instead, they have created a niche market for home decor, called Magnificent Trimmings, Inc., using magnets, a little creativity and a lot of hard work.
The Vista-based endeavor started out simply as a solution to a problem. Colleen had just moved into a new home and ordered a chandelier for her dining room. The problem was, it didn’t come with crystals or any way to attach crystals to the fixture – no wires, no holes, no grommets.
“Unless I wired them to the chandelier, I wasn’t going to have any crystals.”
Surely, Colleen thought, there must be someone out there who had come up with a solution to this problem.
After a little research, she found that not only were there no simple ways to attach crystals to a chandelier, but also there was little available on crystals.
