Recycling the past at new shop, Re-EnhabitBy Toby HatchettSeaCoastOnline.com

Portsmouth — Re-Enhabit opened downtown on June 11, and it’s one unique store. There is no other store like it in the city.

As the company’s card says, “Come rediscover the fun and appeal of vintage, new, upcycled and hand-crafted items.” Inventory includes resurrected home furnishings, accessories, clothing and jewelry.

“I’m having a blast,” said owner Jodie Curtis. “We’re all about recycling, re-use and up-cycling. I want us to ‘re-habit’ what we already have on this planet, and have fun at the same time.”

Curtis, who lives in Amesbury, Mass., has wanted a store like this for a long time. She had been a sales representative for many gift and toy lines in the New England area, and has also been a pharmaceutical representative.

When she was laid off, Curtis said she knew it was time to just “do it.”

“I knew it was time to take this leap, and Portsmouth is the best place for my store,” she said.

Re-Enhabit has something for everyone, and it’s affordable and charming. One can browse here for a long time, while chatting with the owner and her two daughters, who are her “staff” at the moment.
