Local resident realizes goal with new gift shopBy Maribeth WardBannerGraphic.com

Indiana — Greencastle resident Debby Pierce always wanted to own her own shop and now she has done just that. Pierce opened Crafters 2 Gifts Nov. 18 in the log cabin where Hoffman’s Gifts once stood.

After working at Tractor Supply (TSC) for over 20 years, Pierce retired last year. She had been creating craft items for years, even building an addition to her garage to hold her crafts.

“There wasn’t much traffic flow so when this property became available I jumped at the chance to buy it,” explained Pierce.

She has made some changes and plans to add gutters and a new front window to the log cabin which provides a perfect setting for arts and crafts.

“This is a place for all seasons and reasons,” said Pierce, who comes from a family of creative people. One of her favorite areas in the new shop is an upstairs alcove that features antique chairs collected by her grandmother and refinished and upholstered by her grandfather. The space also shows off some other antiques.

But her shop is not about antiques it is a treasure trove of handcrafted items that includes florals, handbags, dollhouses, etchings and all manner of arts and crafts items.

“Right now I have four crafters bringing in items,” said Pierce. I have been a crafter for years. I use to do a lot of shows. But I always wanted my own store,” she added.

While only open a little over a week, she has had lots of customers.
