Ingleside Village in Macon offers a variety of specialty storesBy Linda S. MorrisMacon.com

There is a place in Macon where you can find specialty stores that sell yarn, toys, lamps and guns in the same block. It also has restaurants, antique shops, an art gallery, insurance office, hardware store and a convenience store all within sight of each other.

If a shop goes dark, it usually doesn’t stay that way very long.

The place is Ingleside Village, a long block between Corbin and Rogers avenues, with a very busy Ingleside Avenue running through the middle of it.

What’s the attraction?

“I think the fact (customers) can park and walk around — it’s kind of like a small town,” said Cathy Brantley, who manages Ingleside Village Antique Centre. “Everybody knows everybody. We walk up and down and visit, and try to send everyone other business. It’s like a small-town main street — that’s what it feels like.”

A number of customers mentioned the variety of stores and the unique items carried by the shops as big attractions.

Shopper Libby Davis of Milledgeville said she comes to Ingleside Village to shop nearly every time she comes to Macon.

She’s a frequent shopper at Bobo’s Dance Supply.

“I like it because it has my granddaughter’s dance supplies,” Davis said. “They have a lot of variety — those things you can’t find somewhere else.”

Davis was born in Macon and she said the village has withstood the years well.
