Westminster — Two Westminster residents are using $2 bills to try to help stimulate the local economy.

Cindy Vincent, owner of Country Treasures Gift Shop, special-ordered $2,000 worth of $2 bills from the Westminster branch of IC Federal Credit Union, she said.

Vincent has been giving out the $2 bills to customers when they were owed change in her store, she said. She started doing that the first week of December.

The bills have a sticker attached that reads, “If you receive a $2 bill please take our challenge and support local businesses by spending it only in Westminster.”

“My husband and I try to promote and support the little guy,” she said. “The community of Westminster has been incredibly supportive of our businesses as well. At the liquor store here in town you might pay a little more, but you’re supporting a man whose children go to the school system here.”
