Winner of the special show “Carnevale di Venezia” flies to Italy
Traditional masks, the colourful hustle and bustle of the carnival, narrow, winding streets and romantic gondolas – associations evocative of Venice. At this year’s Christmasworld, at the end of January, the city on the lagoon was the focal point for a special show “Carnevale di Venezia”. One of the special highlights was a competition to win a trip to Venice.
The delighted winner was Zoltan Horvath from Obi Retail Kft. in Budapest. The head buyer for garden products was given the opportunity to gain his own personal impression of the Italian city from 7 to 9 May 2010. “It was my first time in Venice, so for me everything was new and exciting.” This meant that the Christmasworld visitor benefited from his visit to the international fair for event decorations in Frankfurt in more than one way: “I found a host of new ideas and inspiration for next season at Christmasworld, for new products, merchandising and marketing. Another reason why a visit to the fair is worthwhile is that we consistently find new suppliers here.”
The special show “Carnevale di Venezia” gives visitors an impression of the Venice carnival. A backdrop of photographs and graphic motifs, featured traditional masks, graphic motifs and colourful costumes some of which were created live. A bead maker showed how to make strands of beads from coloured glass and jugglers invited visitors to have their photographs taken in two original Venetian gondolas. “The aim of special shows was to provide visitors with some additional decorating ideas and interesting information for their sector. We always stage the various themes with products from our exhibitors so that visitors know immediately where they can order the products concerned. We also take care to show products which ensure the authenticity of the featured theme”, said Jutta Baumann, Christmasworld Director. For the special show “Carnevale di Venezia”, the Christmasworld team organised two gondolas from Leipzig which were accurate in every detail. Messe Frankfurt’s logistics partner, DHL Trade Fairs & Events GmbH, facilitated the transportation of the 11-metre long boats weighing about 500 kg each. Project manager Anja Mewes explained the special challenge presented by this task: “Admittedly, for us, safely transporting Italian gondolas which radiate heat and sunshine, are evocative of pizza, pasta and wine, across Germany in February, in snow and ice, is not an everyday event but for us it was an interesting challenge but one we were happy to accept and would be happy to accept again at any time.”
Up-to-the-minute trends and decorating products for next year’s festive season will be on show at Christmasworld from 28 January to 1 February 2011 in Frankfurt am Main.
