After 14 years, Turtle factory makes home at new location
The turtles in Sneads Ferry have been on the move lately, but rest assured their flippers didn’t take them too far.
The Turtle Factory and The Turtle Factory II merged and have been gradually settling into a much larger nest at 1072 N.C. 210 near Christopher’s Restaurant, about one mile from where the gift shop was located in Sneads Ferry.
After being in the vicinity of Four Corners for so long, the decision to move the store was not an easy one to make, said owner Ann Krieger
“For the first two years I had 300 square feet at Monk’s Corner, then I had 1,600 square feet at the other store near there — I have 3,200 square feet here,” she said.
“We’ve always done things in moderation, so this was very scary.”
A little turtle footstool was the springboard that launched a “turtle headquarters.”
Ann and her husband Ken started making turtle footstools to sell at local festivals 14 years ago.
Ken was in the military, and during a deployment Ann decided she would “open up a little shop while he’s gone.”
