Knoxville shops try to keep holiday shopping localBy VolunteerTV.com

Knoxville, Tenn. — With the holiday shopping season right around the corner, a new movement wants shoppers to buy from local businesses this holiday season.

The idea sprang from Metropulse newspaper, which targeted area businesses that are looking to cash in during the holiday shopping season.

The Shop Knox initiative encourages shoppers to buy from local vendors.

“Shop Knox is about making local choices,” said Janice Pollock, owner of Me to You and Me and Mommy-to-Be. “Buying local first, thinking local first.”

Pollock’s gift shops offer unique and personal items and she knows how to deliver to her customers.

“People will come in here, they’ll order their things,” she said. “If you don’t want to come back in, drive up, we’ll walk it out to you.”

The Shop Knox initiative has even earned the support of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce.
