Local retailers expect heavy trafficBy Scott KerbsTheSpectrum.com

St. George – Local retailers are hoping for strong post-Christmas traffic beginning today as many customers are expected to exchange items, use gift cards and take advantage of aggressive discounts at local shops.

“It’s one of the biggest weeks of the year for any retailer,” said Clayton Burgett, store manager of Best Buy in Washington City.

While sales activity on Dec. 26 often pales in comparison to Black Friday totals, Burgett said he expects the electronics store to attract a high volume of customer traffic today.

“The day after Christmas is typically a very busy day for exchanges,” he said. “It’s going to be a busy day.”

In addition to returns and exchanges, Burgett said he expects to see many residents purchasing accessories for MP3 players, e-readers and other items they received as holiday gifts.

Nationwide retailers are expected to see a 4 percent increase in sales activity during this year’s holiday season, according to revised projections from the global research firm ShopperTrak.
