Look Ma! No Candy
When filling Easter baskets for the youngsters in your life, don’t limit yourself to chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks and candy eggs.
That’s the advice from some Shoals retailers who have been busy the past few weeks creating children’s Easter baskets full of imagination, creativity and all-around cuteness.
At Cold Water Books in Tuscumbia, manager Sandi Hendrix said gift baskets, whether for Easter or any special occasion, are great ideas for any age recipient.
“There are endless choices and varieties,” she said. “The best way to get started is to focus on an appropriate theme.”
To demonstrate, Hendrix created an outdoor-safari Easter basket sure to delight any young boy. As usual with the custom gift baskets she makes for customers, this Easter basket started with a book.
“My choice with the book ‘Charlie on Safari’ for a boy’s basket was such an easy decision,” she said. “I included a scoop net to catch all outdoor critters, rough-and-ready field binoculars, some critters that might be found on a safari and a Hot Wheels Land Rover. These items will help children use their imagination to the fullest as they read the adventures of ‘Charlie On Safari.’ “
Other items to consider including in a child’s Easter basket are puzzles, plush bunnies and lambs, Light in the Night light-up plush toy with book and a personalized letter from the Easter Bunny, Hendrix said.
