Local Merchants Tend to Report Strong Holiday Season
Petoskey, MI – The 2011 holiday season brought gifts such as solid sales performance and store traffic for numerous Northern-Michigan based retailers.
“We were very happy,” said Matt Norcross, owner of McLean and Eakin Booksellers in downtown Petoskey. “November and December (sales figures) were both up over last year.”
Growth in online sales was especially strong through the season, Norcross said, with customers purchasing physical books via the Internet as well as e-books, which McLean and Eakin added to its offerings within the past year or so.
Norcross thanked community members who supported local merchants during the season.

ThNational Retail Federation told the Federal Reserve that the Fed’s plan to lower a 13-year-old cap on debit card “swipe” fees is welcome but a proposed change in methodology would leave the cap too high.
