Artisan Resource Moves ad Expands for Summer 2013 Market

Building on positive reception from U.S.-based volume importers, direct import retailers and wholesalers, Artisan Resource™, a production-sourcing venue for overseas artisan enterprises, will relocate into larger exhibit space at New York City’s Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94 for its third semi-annual edition, August 18-20, 2013. Show hours for the three-day tradeshow also have changed, and the August 2013 edition will open daily at 10:00AM.

“The move to Pier 94 allows Artisan Resource to double in size,” said Christian Falkenberg, NYIGF director and GLM senior vice president. “This additional space not only allows expansion by a solid and enthusiastic base of returning exhibitors, but also the addition of new artisanal resources from countries not currently represented.”

Companies are selected to participate in Artisan Resource based on their dedication to design innovation and cultural preservation. The summer 2013 edition of Artisan Resource is expected to feature 100 exhibitors from more than 20 countries worldwide.

Businesses participating in Artisan Resource for the first time this summer include Bethlehem Fair Trade Artisans from Bethlehem, Palestine; Cape Craft from South Africa; Earthfrendz from India; a Tunisian Pavilion; and SASA Designs by the Deaf from Kenya. In addition to these confirmed newcomers, GLM and ByHand Consulting – show owners and sales consultants for the show – are currently in discussion with artisanal producers from more than 30 countries (Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bolivia , Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Central Asia, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Mali, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zimbabwe).

Companies returning to Artisan Resource from the winter 2013 edition include: ABN – Artisan Business Network from Haiti; Caribbean Craft from Haiti; Cite Textil Camelidos Huancavelica from Peru; Lorenza Filati from Guatemala; Tilonia, representing both Mexico and India; Wayra from Peru; and Zardozi from Afghanistan. Other confirmed participants include several companies which participated in the August 2012 Artisan Resource launch: Afrikiko from Kenya; the Ecuador Trade Office; Get Paper from Nepal; and Source SA, which will be part of an expanded South Africa Pavilion.

Seminars and special programming will augment Artisan Resource exhibit floor offerings. During the show, daily “Importing 101” seminars will be offered to attendees, providing an overview of international business relationships, and the logistics, vocabulary and responsibilities of both exporter and importer. In advance of Show opening, a full day of exhibitor education will address various aspects of the U.S. market, including trends, marketing through “story-selling” and more. An opening day Welcome Reception will be held at Pier 94 for all participants on Sunday, August 18, from 5:00–8:00PM.

Show hours for the summer 2013 event are 10:00AM – 8:00PM, on Sunday, August 17, and Monday, August 18; and 10:00AM – 5:00PM on Tuesday, August 19. Artisan Resource runs concurrently with GLM’s NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®), at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94.

Artisan Resource is managed by GLM and organized with the assistance of ByHand Consulting. Information and registration is available online at www.artisanresourceny.com.
