Local Shoppers Turn Out for Small Business Saturday
Shelby, NC – People could be seen making their way from store to store in uptown Shelby on Saturday for the annual shopping holiday, Small Business Saturday, which encourages people to shop locally.
Linda Parks, owner of the Fireside Bookstore, said she was pleased to see customers carrying bags and items from other uptown businesses as they visited the bookstore, because it meant people were actively supporting the local community.
To Parks, the experience of shopping at small businesses is special because you get a personal touch that isn’t available at big box stores.
