After 97 Years, Borden’s Has No Plans to Stop
Point Pleasant Beach, NJ – In 1991, Borden’s stationery store had already been part of the fabric of Point Pleasant Beach for nearly three-quarters of a century when owner Edward Slater took his son-in-law, Barry Lubin, aside.
“He was getting ready to retire and told me, ‘I’ve got a deal for you,’ ” Lubin recalled of the ownership offer Slater would make available to him. Describing it as “the right opportunity at the right time,” Lubin, then a marketing manager at a company in Bergen County, became a co-owner of the town landmark with a partner, whom he eventually bought out in 2011 to become its sole owner.
Nearly 25 years later, 57-year-old Lubin, a Marlboro resident and married father of three, has never looked back on his career choice or the value that Borden’s has brought to the sprawling shore community it serves.
