2019 Creative Display Contest finalists

Meet the top 11 finalists in our second annual contest of display inspiration

Back in October, a call was sent out to readers to submit a photo of their most creative in-store displays. The entries came flooding in and our editors were tasked with the difficult job of narrowing it down to the top 10. In fact, they just couldn’t do it so there are 11. Now the task is yours. Please review the finalists shown here (click each image to view in a larger size) and visit bit.ly/MMDisplays19 to vote for your favorite by Feb. 12, 2019. The winner will be featured in the Spring issue and earn valuable prizes.

A Village Gift Shop

Glendale, Ohio

“This antique piece houses the gourmet section of our shop! Our building was built in 1867 so we feel this display helps preserve a piece of history. The piece itself is so versatile with shelving, drawers and storage. Our dips, pestos and other delicious goodies look so inviting!”

— Diane Agricola

Kreatelier

Providence, Rhode Island

“We recently took down the slat walls in our store and replaced these with wooden wine boxes we got from a neighbor liquor store on the street. This new wall display has been great because we have designed the wall space exactly the way we wanted. The wooden boxes are great for displaying items but also good to stock inventory. We and our customers love it! And we feel happy we reused boxes that maybe would have ended up in the landfill!”

— Line Daems

Daisy Shoppe

Brea, California

“So many customers love dogs! We are in an outdoor shopping center and we get lots of dogs visiting our clothing store — we even keep treats behind the counter for our doggy visitors. This display was a tribute to our pet lovers and everything sold really well, too.”

— Kay Moran

Hershey Medical Center Gift Shop

Hershey, Pennsylvania

“Everyone loves cardinals, and red pickup trucks with trees! I love all the pops of red. It’s a display that really stands out. It was cheerful to everyone.”

— Vicki Miller

Essenhaus Village Shops

Middlebury, Indiana

“This is one of our favorite seasonal displays of the year, entitled, Boxwood Garden. It is a favorite because it is very reminiscent of the first snow of the season. Frosted fronds and crisp icy glitz tucked in with the fern fronds and the tree branches are a nice reminder of the wonderful summer season just past and a glimmer of hope for the spring to come. The insects and butterflies tucked into the tree are a whimsical touch to make us smile, while the Thymes Fraiser Fir room scent products help reinforce the feeling of being in the great outdoors.”

— Barb Miller

Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts

Petoskey, Michigan

“Everyone knows a bird-lover! This display is the perfect front-label display as it highlights one of our favorite lines, Mr. Bird, among others. The natural wood floating shelves add height and interest to this already interesting display.”

— Laine Ludwig

The Mind’s Eye Interiors

Lehaina, Hawaii

“Aloha. I have a large furniture showroom in Lahaina on the island of Maui. Along with a great selection of furniture, we feature a lot of accessories, lamps, rugs, and wall décor. We love doing creative tabletop displays in the showroom to feature new accessories when they come in. The coastal theme is our favorite because it’s so apropos for our location.”

— Jean Millsap

The Owl Box

Tracy, California

“We love that this display is simple and tells a feel-good story. It reflects a soft romantic style that’s fun and feminine with clothing, jewelry and fragrance. We also love how the fragrance is easy to shop at a glance with a single fragrance on a shelf!”

— Gail Gabbert

Soapy Gnome

Goshen, Indiana

“We are proud of this display because it’s many unique features as well as its initial draw to viewers. With soap displayed at varying levels and depths, people naturally want to come closer to view our products. To enhance the bath theme, we utilized an old pitcher and wash basin to hold soap. Additionally, the display features wooden crates as well as natural textures such as bark, hand-woven cotton, and natural fiber scrub brushes. This reinforces the idea that our products made with natural ingredients and creates a cozy atmosphere. The soap bars are arranged in several different directions so that shoppers can admire all sides of the bars featuring the textures on top, as well as the interior swirls. The lower level of lavender spearmint creates a lovely textured pattern as a foundation to lift our other bars of soap to a more shopper-friendly height. This display was created to be viewed in the round, and therefore doesn’t have a bad side. It encourages customers to move throughout our store.”

— Jenny Frech

Sweet Tangerine

Corsicana, Texas

“This display represents one of our favorite brands Mud Pie. We have incorporated other items/categories for add-on sales and color. Displays need to tell a story and grab that customer in to purchase something.”

— Carmen Austin

Rainforest Adventures

Sevierville, Tennessee

“This display allows us to showcase beautifully handmade fair-trade artwork. With the help of this display, sales have more than doubled. It is large enough to house a variety of products and make a statement while opening up the floor and creating a vision of what these products would look like on a customers’ own shelving at home. Most importantly, by focusing on Stoneage Arts products we help encourage the support of world artisans and communities.”
