“If I want to [just] see beautiful objects I can go to a museum,” says Hello World owner J. Lamancuso, who was often frustrated by the high prices he found at gift shops during his many travels. Affordability was paramount when he finally opened his own store.
“I like to shop so it seemed a natural choice to own a store,” Lamancuso says. His master’s degree in textiles from the Tyler School of Art got the ball rolling. “Textiles got me into home interiors,” Lamanusco says, who enjoys the “creative aspect” of designing a store.
Lamanusco owns two other shops in the high-end Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia: Hello Home, an interior décor store and Industry, and an accessory-based gift shop.
