Whom do you call when you need a gift basket sent to the “stars”? In San Luis Obispo, the answer is the Crushed Grape. In 1986, Gretchen Gonyer moved back to SLO and opened a wine and gift store. With more than half of the store stocked with local products, it quickly became a favorite for those looking for regional gifts, wines, picnic supplies and gift baskets. She has filled gift baskets ordered for Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Judy Collins and other well-known personalities. Gonyer attributes much of her store’s success to being involved in a great community. She donates an average of 30 baskets per month to local charities and organizations in the area.
