Located directly across from the picturesque slopes of Jockey’s Ridge, and sitting just a block from the ocean, Kitty Hawk Kites is a store for the adventure-lover. Carrying high-end toys, racing kites, clothing, footwear, and outdoor equipment, the store also has an entire department devoted to activities such as hang gliding, kayaking, and surfing. The store even has an indoor rock-climbing wall.

Employees encourage both children and their parents to try out the items, handing them anything from magical floating fairies to “talking” books. Heather Doyle, the store’s assistant manager, says: “We want our customers to touch the merchandise, when people walk into the store we want them to think fun.”
