The Body Lounge

Beth Gadbois, owner of the Body Lounge, sets high standards for the products she carries in her store: They have to be made using essential oils instead of synthetic fragrances, and contain no parabens or petrochemicals. “Consumers don’t want to have to do a lot of work, my job is to decipher the ingredients list so they can trust that they’re getting the highest quality and most natural skin and body products available,” Gadbois says.

Exclusivity is another factor in selecting a line. Some products may make the grade for quality and sustainability but are turned down because they are too readily available in other stores. The Body Lounge has even collaborated with a local herbalist and soap maker to design the store’s own private label collection. In addition to a full line of bath and body products The Body Lounge has expanded into selling handbags and accessories by certified fair trade vendors.

“We live in a consumer society,” says Gadbois. “It’s great that we can use our choices to make a difference in peoples’ lives.”
