In the lower level of the historic Depot Building on Main Street the expansive Stowe Mercantile boasts a wide assortment of gifts. Creaking, wide board floors and the sweet aroma of roasting nuts lend the shop old-time country charm. There’s even a large antique scale for weighing penny candy favorites. A piano and wooden checkers game keep kids entertained while parents browse.

Charming toys and puzzles, fragrant toiletries, smart luggage, stylish designer women’s wear, and beautiful framed prints of the Vermont landscape are sold here.

The store also stocks many quality artisanal goods like beautifully glazed pottery, gleaming copperware, and whimsically ruffled aprons in vintage-inspired prints. There are many delectable Vermont-made jams, relishes, cheeses, and other treats attractively packaged for giving—then of course, there’s Vermont’s famous export—its maple syrup.
