Laughing Moon Chocolates

Sweet aromas of caramel, cocoa and vanilla greet visitors to Laughing Moon Chocolates. Glass cases display truffles and candied fruits as if they are showcasing expensive gems. The store’s walls are covered with fine art, elegant pottery, and even honey and herbal remedies by Honey Gardens Apiaries.

What sets Laughing Moon apart is the attention to regional flavors.

“We made a shift last year to sourcing as much of our ingredients locally as possible,” owner Leigh Williams says. Many of the local products used in creating Williams delectable confections are also sold in the shop.

Another way that Laughing Moon markets a “local” message is through its Community Supported Chocolate Shop program.

Supporters can buy shares in the shop, which can be redeemed for candy over the following 18 months. Shares of $250 are redeemable for $275 in candy; the program is open to anyone but marketed to locals more. Funds raised will allow Williams to repaint the building’s exterior.
