Stephen Huneck Dog Gallery
Located between a popular coffee shop and recreational paths in Stowe, the Steven Huneck Gallery is in an ideal spot for local dog fans to stop in on their daily walks. Two and four-legged visitors are greeted by Ophelia, a mellow yellow lab.
The products sold here showcase Huneck’s work. His whimsical illustrations and art grace a wide variety of products from mouse pads and chew toys to hooked rugs and stone busts. Reproductions of his illustrations are available in a variety of sizes for framing. Huneck started his career in furniture design; the shop carries many examples of his Shaker and folk art-inspired chairs, armoires, and lamps. Each piece is handcrafted by a team of artisans he employs at his nearby studio in St. Johnsbury.
Following a fall down his studio’s stairs Huneck suffered from serious health concerns. As part of his rehabilitation Huneck began creating a series of woodblock prints, which became the “Sally” series of children’s books. These books look at the world through the eyes of a black lab.
