Sparkling Jewelry Trends By Sharon Naylor

Attracting Specialty Demographics

Knowing what’s hot in different demographics allows you to stock and display jewelry that moves as a self-bought treat or as a gift. Here are the trends:

Teens:
Woven friendship bracelets
Stackables
Lots of bright colors and metallic silvers, bronzes and coppers
Wrap bracelets in leather with colorful accents and charms

50+ market:
Chunkier rings with semi-precious stones
Wrap bracelets
Stackable bangles
Long necklaces with statement pendants
Freshwater pearl pieces that can become family heirlooms.

Children:
Jewelry made with safe materials (no lead, made in the U.S.A)
Birthstone pieces
Interchangeable charms
Bright bangles

“Bottlecap necklaces are flying off the shelves,” says Joanie Perales of Fairy Tale Jewels. “We introduced our Prissy Pop Tops bottle cap necklace collection in 2005 and they are still going strong. I think their nostalgia, mixed with our ability to constantly create new designs, helps to keep them in high demand. We also offer personalization and embellish them with bows and crystals for a little extra girly girl flare and sparkle.”

Allison Smith of Kameleon says, “Anything goes with jewelry right now: big and chunky, sleek and subtle, bold and colorful. There’s something out there for any taste or style.”
