Gift Shop Plus Spring 2021
Spring Forth! By Julie McCallum

Gift Shop® Plus Spring 2021 Editor's Letter

It won’t be long now! Spring has sprung, we’ve weathered the ultimate storm, and things are slowly getting back to normal. Retailers are resetting the shelves for the next season and as more cities and states are opening back up, stores are stocking up to meet pent up demand.

Gift Shop® Plus Spring Issue 2021

In this issue of Gift Shop Plus, we’ve got inspiration aplenty for your store. From the bright spot of this year’s Pantone Color combo of the year featured in the Trend Report, pages 39-48, to the Stationery Lookbook on pages 74-80, fresh ideas are everywhere. We visit with one Texas retailer whose mission is to be the ultimate gifting resource for her customers. Her fun, inspired interior is featured on the cover and on page 82.

Some of our favorite places to visit include zoos and aquariums. Taking home something from the gift shops is a great way to have a souvenir of the visit AND help support their animal-centric missions. Find out what makes a terrific zoo gift shop in our museums&MORE section on page 62 and engaging ways to merchandise an aquarium shop on page 66.

Just as we’ve all had to focus on home this past year, products made close to home have become more important than ever. The supply and demand aspect isn’t the only perk – made in the U.S.A. is a major selling point for retailers well into the future. Find out more on page 86. Keeping conversations going is easy with meaningful jewelry. We’ve rounded up some of our sentimental favorites beginning on page 90. And while we are focusing within, bath and body products take a minimalist approach to self-care. Learn how to stay on top of what Pinterest says is the personal care trend of 2021 – skinimalism – on page 94.

After pressing pause on our favorite yearly event, we are excited to re-launch the Gift + Stationery 40 Under 40 Awards for the class of 2021. We will honor 40 outstanding individuals making their marks in the industry. Nominations are encouraged from all segments of the industry – men and women who are demonstrating innovation, creativity and commitment. The 40 professionals chosen will represent the best in the industry. The Gift + Stationery 40 Under 40 Class of 2021 will be honored at an event this Summer (virtually and in person), and recognized in the Fall 2021 issues of Stationery Trends and Gift Shop Plus. The deadline for nominations is May 20, 2021.
