Summer 2007 Accent on Design Award Winners Announced
New York, NY – The “best of the best” were recognized at the New York International Gift Fair, where four exhibitors in the juried Accent on Design division were honored for design creativity and ingenuity. Accent on Design runs through Thursday, August 16, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Accent on Design awards for Best New Product Design and Best Collection were presented to:
Best New Product Design:
mmckenna LLC (New York, NY) for its Orchadia lamp mobile, a poetic interpretation of new technology designed by Mark Mckenna.
Best New Product Design:
smallpond (Brooklyn, NY), representing Established & Sons, for its Font Clock designed by Sebastian Wrong. The new typeface on this reinvented timepiece gives a familiar clock function a contemporary twist.
Best Collection:
DFC Mexico City (Mexico City, Mexico) for its cutting edge, whimsical, bold take on pop culture south of the border. DFC Mexico City is a first-time exhibitor in Accent on Design.
Best Collection:
Charles & Marie, Inc. (San Carlos, CA) for its beautifully presented curatorial selection of international lifestyle products.
“The Accent on Design Awards recognize superlative design as well as talent, creativity and innovation within the division,” said Priscila Onou, divisional manager. “These companies join nearly 170 others who have been recognized as innovators and standard-setters since Accent on Design’s inception in 1984.”
Judging criteria included innovation, function, originality and design. The August 2007Accent on Design Selection Committee includes: Miguel Calvo, Design & Research; Judy Dunne, interior and architectural designer, James Klein, Kleinreid; Ilene Shaw, Shaw + Co! Productions; and Jon Weatherman, museum consultant.
