Hopewell, NJ – Fay Sciarra saw the writing on the wall. When a downturn in the economy caused a precipitous decline in the sale of her art, she knew she needed to act fast.

So she decided to draw on a lifetime of experience and talent — the storytelling and composition lessons learned as a TV producer in San Francisco, the sense of style honed while decorating her home, and the talent that had lain dormant until her artist mother encouraged her to paint — and take a leap of faith.

That was six-and-a-half years ago, and sometimes, even she’s surprised by the success of Umbrella, the home decor store she co-founded with her sister-in-law, Linda Sciarra, the only person she ever considered for the job.
