Area retailers generally pleased with 2010 holiday sales
Retailers in Albertville and Boaz were generally pleased with sales during the 2010 holiday season, especially during another sluggish year for the economy.
Big-box stores reported overwhelming interest in electronics again in 2010.
“Everything was about electronics this year,” said Ann Reeves, manager at Wal-Mart Supercenter in Boaz. “Everyone needed flat-screen TVs.”
Reeves said other popular merchandise included cell phone upgrades, iPads, e-book readers, and game consoles like PlayStation 3 and Wii.
Jacob Stoneking, assistant store manager at Kmart in Albertville, said the most popular merchandise at his store included Zhu Zhu Pets and Pillow Pals.
Staples in Guntersville reported another typical holiday season of electronics sales.
“Our hot items were the same hot items we have for every Christmas,” said Staples sales manager Kevin Stanfield. “Laptops, MP3 players and the accessories that go with those. GPSes and digital cameras.”
