ARTEˇL wins best collection at Designblok 2008
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC — Arteˇl’s debut exhibition for Designblok 2008 received the Editors-in-Chief award for the Best Collection in an awards ceremony held Sunday, October 12 at Superstudio Dox.
A panel of international and local magazine editors awarded Arteˇl’s exhibition with this highest honor, from among more than 230 exhibitors.
For the exhibition, Arteˇl owner and proprietor Karen Feldman commisioned six Czech artists and designers to each create a set of four tumblers to be produced in limited editions of 25 numbered sets with 5 AP examples. The resulting sets by Eva Eisler, Zdeneˇk Lhotský, Petr Nikl, Frantisek Skála, Studio Olgoj Chorchoj/Michal Froneˇk and Maxim Velcˇovský are faithful to traditional Czech glass-making techniques and representative of Arteˇl’s modern sophistication.
“Arteˇl was honored to have collaborated with such esteemed and talented Czech artists and designers on this unique project, and proud to have had the opportunity to present at Designblok ’08. We are delighted at its reception, both with the public and with the media,” Feldman noted.
Established in 1998, Arteˇl specializes in functional glassware of high design, combining traditional standards of luxury glassware with the utility demanded by modern life. Situated on the cobblestone streets of downtown Prague’s Staré meˇsto, the company’s flagship design store features an extensive collection of Arteˇl designs, as well as an inspired assortment of found objects, antique books and jewelry. With a keen eye for the absurd, and the absurdly beautiful, Feldman has created an environment within the vaulted ceilings of her Baroque storefront which epitomizes both eccentric and functional design.
Arteˇl’s innovative product line can be found on the shelves of Barney’s Japan, Bergdorf Goodman and Paul Smith, among other exclusive retailers.
