Kathy Huiskamp opened her downtown Belleville business on April Fool’s Day – and it’s no joke.

Rather, it’s a unique collective of five artisans working together in conjunction with Huiskamp as owner of a retail gift store to provide consumers with an array of products.

Fusion Creative Collections opened April 1 at 282 Front St. and the premises features giftware, bath and spa, home decor and artisan studios.

“I believe Fusion is unique to downtown Belleville because we operate our own businesses independently yet we’re under one roof working together to sell our products and services,” said the 41-year-old Huiskamp.

Huiskamp is no stranger to the downtown retail scene.

She was one of the co-founders of Serendipity Gifts on Front Street but left after its first two years to pursue other interests. (The store has since closed).

But earlier this year, she decided to return to retail downtown and open her own business and further her involvement with local artisans.
