Baby Planet announces new charity program combined with recycling program

Chicago, IL – Baby Planet’s new product line is a combination of savvy engineering know-how and consumer convenience, so it isn’t a surprise that this trend-setting company has fashioned a plan that helps consumers find a new home for their strollers when they are done with them.

The company will unveil its plan at ABC Kids Expo Sept. 7 to 10 in Las Vegas in Booth A-3601.

Since the strollers are made so well, there’s a good chance they will have plenty of life in them after the user’s children have outgrown them. The company knows that there are many families in need that must rely on charities for assistance with the demands of caring for their children, so it has established a not-for-profit foundation, The Baby Planet Foundation, as a conduit for helping donors find an accredited charity in their area (saves on shipping which reduces greenhouses gases) to donate their Baby Planet, or any stroller of any brand, to families who need it. They also plan to expand the program to include all children’s care products.

“We have developed an easy user interface, so consumers can access charity information and easily get involved. We research and recruit charities to become involved in our network and promote their important work, so consumers will have a direct link to them,” said Baby Planet president Pete Myers. “In the end we will ease the burden for consumers to get involved with charitable donations and coordinate a smooth transition of these goods to the charities involved, thus increasing the number of goods given directly to the families that need them.”

Not only is The Baby Planet Foundation socially responsible, it’s also environmentally friendly. The charity program will eliminate many strollers from being dumped in the garbage, but the company has also taken steps to help parents dispose of their non-usable Baby Planet strollers in an environmentally responsible way. If the entire stroller is put in the trash, it adds to our on-going landfill problems. But, if properly dismantled, strollers are made of many recyclable parts. So, Baby Planet has created an easy way to help parents do the right thing.

Parents can visit baby-planet.com for details on how to send their stroller back to us. Once returned, Baby Planet will disassemble the stroller and send the separated materials off to recycling centers. And the company doesn’t want to keep this good-for-the-planet idea to itself—it welcomes other companies, whether competitor or not, to join Baby Planet in this initiative and implement similar programs.

“When companies manufacture products, they indirectly create a negative impact on our planet once those products are disposed of. We are trying to stop this cycle of negative impact with this program,” Myers said. “In addition to this direct action we will use this program as a way to raise awareness to the importance of recycling and encourage all consumers to join us in these efforts to take a more proactive approach to their recycling duty.”

In addition to the donation and recycling programs The Baby Planet Foundation will take on special projects that reinforce its base mission of direct action to improve the environment and increase consumer awareness of important issues related to the global community. One example is a line of strollers themed to represent Endangered Species, which will launch in late 2007. This line promotes the plight of these species and the diminishing habitats they occupy. They encourage consumers to get directly involved in efforts to protect these and all species. Additionally, The Baby Planet Foundation will make yearly donations to the Wildlife Conservation Society and other organizations charged with the preservation of these species.

Baby Planet strives to enhance the baby’s “total” environment by contributing to a safer, more comfortable place for every child. That is why there’s no one who takes more pride in taking care of the world that surrounds your baby than the team at Baby Planet. Visit baby-planet.com for more information.
